Buddha Beach, Sedona, ArizonaThis is a full color book of photographs, I have previewed it in black and white and it looks good on those Kindles also. It will display best on the Kindle Fire or on the color Kindle apps available for your computers and your devices (iPad etc)

Rock cairns populate the area known as Buddha Beach at the Cathedral Rock Vortex along Oak Creek in Sedona. There are literally hundreds of tiny hand crafted rock piles, made from rocks and stones along the shore.

Buddha Beach actually is part of Oak Creek where the creek widens and in warm weather people go wading and even swimming. People actually also cross the creek to get to the trails on the other side.

As I (Deborah Carney) was photographing the tiny (and not so tiny) rock structures I knew they had to be paired with quotes and sayings from Buddha. I hope you will enjoy this journey through Buddha Beach paired with some insightful quotations.

The photographs in this book are taken by myself, my daughter Liz, and her son Alec. I was going to identify who took what, but I don’t want to detract from the beauty of the images and the sayings they are paired with. I will say that I am proud to say that each of us contributed and individual attribution isn’t necessary. All the sayings in the book are attributed to Buddha.

Buddha quotes need to be read slowly for the meaning to come to you. Many are open to interpretation, which means you will read the meaning you need to see and hear. Each photo has its own message; you might have to look hard to find it.

I’m very happy that we went in the winter because we were able to see and experience things that would be hidden by leaves in the spring and summer. It was also nice to have a few people around, but not the large numbers that are in the area during the warmer seasons.

We are where we are supposed to be, when we are supposed to be there.

~ Deborah Carney

Ambition and Stubborness - Dan Fogg

This website was started with an Idea years ago and I finally have the Ambition to follow through with it.

We will be publishing the writing of Dan Fogg, Deborah Carney, Vinny O’Hare, Liz Fogg and many others in the coming weeks.

Please join us, subscribe to our RSS feed and read what we have to offer.

“The two most engaging powers of an author are to make new things familiar, and familiar things new.”
-Samuel Johnson
lexicographer (1709-1784)

One of Dan’s favorite quotes.

NightFire Publications was started in memory of Daniel Fogg, a brilliant young writer who’s life ended too soon on a stormy night on the New Jersey Turnpike. But that is another story for another day. On what would have been his 27th Birthday I decided to finally post his writing for the world to enjoy. His work is still copyright protected, don’t go making it your own or claiming to be the author. His ghost is passionate about protecting his work.

These pages will explain Daniel and his work, mostly in his own words. Enjoy. Or even better, be challenged to follow your passion….

What is weirder than a marshmallow? Well, to be honest, I have never really thought about it. I never thought of marshmallows to be weird, but once you mention it, they kind of are – right?

I got a chance to review this book called Weirder Than Marshmallows and in fact, it is not about marshmallows, this is a book with a collection of musings and humurous thoughts of humanity. About the stupidity that is portrayed and points out how the obvious is right there in front of your face but totally missed.

This book is a short read and although I did not find this book to be very entertaining. It did get a few chuckles out of me, but this was just not something that ammused me.

But, even though I did not find it amusing, I am betting some of you would enjoy it.

I had no idea of the number of different types of butterflies until I read Flowers with Wings — A Collection of Butterfly Photos from NightFire Publications. Sure, I realized there were several. But some of the varieties are unbelievably intricate and unusual. For instance, the Indian Leaf Butterfly, when it’s wings are closed, looks like… well, a leaf. But when it opens its wings, you see this gorgeous, iridescent blue and gold and purple winged creature that is absolutely stunning. The change is incredible!

If you like butterflies or just colorful photos, you’ll thoroughly enjoy this ebook. It would actually do well as a coffee table book with all its bright colored photographs and short verses and quotes relating to butterflies. I’ve browsed through many coffee table books that couldn’t compare for quality and interest.

I love photography books, because the images inspire my photography, I love the photography tips, and some of the best books (in my opinion) have a story behind the images.

The Flowers With Wings digital photography ebook by Deborah Carney and Vinny O’Hare is a peaceful book that I found myself flipping through slowly. It’s perfect for someone who loves butterflies and at $4.99, it’s an affordable gift and stocking stuffer. What I love about the book is that it inspired an addition to my Photography Bucket List. I caught a portion of a documentary about the Monarch Butterflies and thought it would be amazing to capture a portion of their migration in South America. Until I get my act together and get my passport, I think I’ll visit a local butterfly exhibit and see what I can capture.

I like weird stuff. If something can be described as strange or bizarre, there’s a good chance that I’ll like it at least a little bit. So, when I read the description of Weirder Than Marshmallows- “Stories that are, like marshmallows, strange, mind boggling… hard to explain, impossible to ignore”- it appealed to me.

Weirder Than Marshmallows contains true stories and essays by the author, Dan Fogg. Most of the essays are humorous, but some are more serious and personal. Much of the humor is based on human stupidity. Fogg addresses topics such as seemingly unnecessary warning labels (i.e. “highly flammable!” on lighter fluid), technological malfunctions, and people who don’t know the difference between “lose” and “loose”- that’s a pet peeve of mine, so I can relate! The more serious essays deal with issues such as the aftermath of Columbine and the 2000 Presidential elections.

As everyone knows I love to read. I love to read books about everything and anything. When asked to review Weirder than Marshmellows, I was amazed to learn the author is disabled (just like me)! I was also saddened to learn that the author had passed away, meaning this would be something I would truly treasure because I wouldn’t be able to read anything more by Dan Fogg!

The reason I was drawn to this book is because not only is it full of funny (TRUE), interesting, and abnormal stories but because it gave Dan’s account of living life in a wheelchair. It gave his honest approach to life as a person with a disability, his message is simple “Everyone would like to be included and treated like a human being” (my words not his).

I truly believe this book would be great for any person, it make lights of several things that people think but rarely speak about.
